App Ideation: Wild Find

The idea

With my inspiration being Hipcamp, Falling Fruit, and Threads, I wanted to create an app for free campsites that have map locations, photos and reviews/discussions attached to the post. I have been often scouring the web for a list of free campsites available near me, with nothing to show for it besides frustration.

The process of app ideation

I started with a list of apps that I like, dislike, and ones that have features that I like. What part of those apps did I like/dislike? What do I wish each had or didn’t have?

Next I asked myself what I want in the app, how do I want it to function? I wrote those demands down (listed below and inthe .pdf) and elaborated on some of them.

Then I needed a name. Well, what are unlisted, free campsites other than wild? And you need to find the sites to list them. Thus Wild Find was created. And I drew a little logo doodle.

After the Mind Map was done, I started creating my presentation because I didn’t know what else to do next. I decided that I needed features from the apps that I really enjoy needed to be referenced, so I took screenshots and put them in.

After the majority of the presentation was done, I then worked on sketching out how I want the app to look. It’s like if Hipcamp, Falling Fruit, and Threads had a baby. All of their features combined, but in a more accessible way.

As Wild Find says, we’re ready for your adventure.

What features should the app have?

Below is a list of features that are ideal for Wild Find and make the app unique to its audience. Wild Find is a very niche app idea, and services to backcountry adventurers that are looking to escape civilization in favor of remote places.

  • Map or list that features the campsites.
  • Search bar for destinations.
  • Filtration of search results by type of camping gear and campsite availability
  • On each campsite page, there’s discussion or reviews on the site about its conditions/maintenance needed/quality/activities available.
  • Can search for outdoor activities that are near the campsite. Ads are enabled for outdoor recreation facilities.
  • Can easily share reservations with your friends/family through the app to maintain security. They would be able to manage your reservation in case of emergency or loss of service.
  • A place to organize and save lists for future reference.
  • Satellite phone connection, so you can have the ability to check weather locations or find the campsite based on the coordinates.
