I have been working on a long-form article for some time now for my graduate studies. With friends being in the small business realm, I feel deeply connected to supporting them in a mariad of ways.

Learning and researching tools and best practices for small businesses lead to some very interesting dicoveries. There was a study done in rural Maine that asked small businesses to report their opinions about social media marketing and how it could be put to the best use.

Traditionally, small businesses in rural parts of the US will use paid print and digital advertisements to market to their consumers. With advertising on social media, they could bring in customers from other parts of the country that are going to the bigger cities in Maine – like Portland. The algorithm pushes content to users that are looking for, or are liking, content that is related to their topic of interest. By posting on social media and interacting with potential customers, the business becomes relatable and approachable.

I wanted to try advertising my article on the different social media platforms I use, and discover what I would say in the post. Please see below for my examples.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn post

For LinkedIn, I have connections with a lot of business professionals and colleagues. I prefer to remain completely professional, and like to be quite short in my posts. I find that getting to the point instead of writing an essay leads to more engagement with my content. Honestly, I get annoyed with bigger brands posting long content on LinkedIn, since I mostly use it for professional connections and job searches.

Overall, I am disappointed with how this post turned out. It was unexpected that LinkedIn created its own shorter URL, and disappointing that it didn’t include the graphic I made for the article in the post. It’s boring and uneffective in this format.

Facebook

Facebook post

I use my Facebook page to connect with friends and family. The post advertising my article is meant to be short and sweet, with a sense of pride. I also put the prompt for feedback as a way to interact with my friends/family on a deeper level and to get their honest feedback about it. I feel that they will be more direct with me about it than someone I do not know well.

Threads

For context of this post, I have used “Twitter” but never really enjoyed it. Since the competitor is now Threads (created by Instagram/Facebook), and is a similar platform, I don’t feel the desire to create an account to just delete it. However, I did find this template on Canva and decided to use that instead. I have seen examples of Threads posts on Instagram, so I know the formatting of it. I imagine that if I was the type of person to use Threads, it would be for close friends to update them on my life and little moments that have brought joy. In that case, I would want to share my feelings in the open and be proud of myself for this accomplishment.

And finally, here is the link to the article. Happy reading!
