We took the Aldgate station to SoHo again to get to where the British Board of Film Classification is located for the presentation.
The presenter used video clips of film we would have seen and used them as clear examples to show the reasoning behind the ratings they were given. I’m excited to further explore the BBFC because of the new internship opportunities they’re letting students do. They basically rate films from U (universal) to R18 (restricted 18). Usually if a movie is higher up on the scale, a person under the age restriction would have to bring a parent or guardian with them to be able to watch the movies. Same goes with renting, just like here in the US.
There’s a chain in London called Wagamama that serves Japanese cuisine – and had plenty of vegan options available. I got a rice bowl with lots of veggies and even a vegan egg made out of coconut milk. Eating it alltogether was kind of strange because there were so many different textures going on, bt overall it was still so good.
The group then walked to the Seven Dials; it’s just a round about with a statue in the middle where seven small streets connect to it. Neal’s Yard is about a block away from the monument. In the yard, there are tons of little shops and places to eat, I went into a little shop for soaps and other similar things.
Neal’s Yard Natural Remedies had some shampoo made of witch hazel, apple cider vinegar and more natural ingredients since my hair wasn’t liking the hotel’s as much. I bought some lavender soap as a gift and a reusable bag to keep using while on the trip (I’ve been using it almost everyday now!)
Taylor and I split off and adventured around for a while and ended up finding two “vintage clothing” stores. I noticed that the shops didn’t prefer to say second-hand, like they do here, and I think it’s because the population in England prefers to buy a few quality new clothes, rather than a lot of clothes for a cheap price.
This place pictured is called ‘Rokit‘ and had so many different items of clothing. They have their own brand, too, where they try to reuse different materials into clothing to cut down on waste. There are several of these located around London and have an online shop! They had old festival game lights up on the ceiling in this location and lots of unique jewelry that looked like they could’ve been from an estate sale. What they do to upcycle clothing is make it their own! So they will cut and restitch seams, put new logos and tags on the items to rebrand and many more things. They had a lot of US sports teams’ sweatshirts, shirts and shorts, though, I was expecting more football items since we were in London.
We turned the corner, and there was a pink and white colored restaurant that was entirely vegan! I was in heaven! I ended up buying two chocolate chip cookies before we left to go meet one of our other friends. I ended up coming back to the restaurant and got a Buddha Bowl of rice and six different dishes in one with curry sauce all over them. It was so good, the picture makes it look kind of gross and won’t do it justice for the taste. It was delicious.
We ended up going on some more adventures and found a Primark – which is like a super sized Forever 21. I mean the store itself was 5 floors! They had almost anything you could think of in there, so I bought some socks and hand sanitizer (the tubes are sooo gross!)
When we got back, we ate our food and chilled out in the hotel room and played some card games. It was such a long day, but we stayed up late talking altogether anyway.
