Kill Bill Vol. 1 (2003) is supposedly is considered to be an action, crime and a thriller movie written and directed by Quentin Tarantino. However, there are many underlying themes to the film.

There are specific scenes that Tarantino put to display his creative genre characteristic. For example, the main character used to be an assassin and goes after other assassins, that would be under the spy/ action genre; there are scenes that can remind audiences of old western movies from the 50s that have the stereotypical show down outside of a run down, wood-shack bar; the assassins use martial arts and samurai swords and reminds audiences of Kung Fu movies that take place in ancient China;

and lastly when the back story of the last anti-hero begins and turns animated like a cartoon show with martial arts and exaggerated expressions and actions – anime.
Tarantino also subliminally uses commercial catch lines in his films to arise some sort of humor from his audiences. For instance, when the final show down has started to commence, the camera only focuses on the mouth of the the anti heroine while says “Silly rabbit,” the heroine says “tricks are for,” and the anti heroine finishes “kids.” Another great subliminal humor tactic was dressing up the owner of the ‘restaurant’ the anti heroine and her gang were in as Charlie Brown and began to pick on him. However, audiences probably didn’t notice the squiggly stripe along his yellow robes until after the gang members started to pick on him.

Another set of scenes that Tarantino included were when the anti heroine was walking down a hallway with her gang. The scene could remind audiences of Star Wars because of the color scheme and how the anti heroine was placed in the front middle with her gang behind her symmetrically. Another scene that could be placed in the sci-fi genre would be when the heroine has to defeat all of the gang members in a room and the lighting turns all blue – like it’s out of this world.
Tarantino is the master of pastiche and having multiple genres in his films, Kill Bill Vol. 1 is one of those that shows his expressive creativity.
